Grandma Smith's Dinner Rolls

These are my husband's Grandma's "famous" rolls. These are at every important get together and they are the best ever. -Kristin

4 1/2 t. yeast
1/2 c. sugar
1 1/2 t. salt
1/2 c. softened butter

  • In mixer, or by hand, stir 2 cups flour, yeast, sugar and salt in large bowl.
  • Then add softened butter and hot water. Beat for 2 minutes.
  • Add 1 cup flour and the eggs. Beat for 1 minute.
  • Gradually add flour to make soft dough. Knead 5 to 10 minutes.
  • Place dough in greased bowl, turning once to coat on all sides. Let sit, covered for about an hour, until doubled.
  • Punch dough down, shape into rolls.
  • Place in greased pan, cover and let rise till doubled. (about an hour)
  • Bake 350 for about 20-25 minutes.
  • When they are fresh out of the oven, brush with butter. Sometimes Grandma would sprinkle them with poppy seeds or sesame seeds.

*I make 21 rolls, and divide them between 1, 9x13 pan and 1, 8x8 pan. -Sarah
