Glazed Apple Squares

This is another one of my Mom's recipes. It tastes just like apple pie, but it's flatter and has a frosting glaze on it. I love it because it feeds a crowd and the dough comes together really nicely. -Sarah

Crust:
3 cups flour
1 cup shortening
-Cut shortening into flour.

1/2 cup water
1 egg
1 T. vinegar
1 t. salt
-Mix, and then add to flour mixture.

Filling:
2 cups sugar
6 T. flour
2 t. cinnamon
1/4 t. salt
8 cups peeled apple slices
1/4 cup butter

Glaze:
2 T. melted butter
1 cup powdered sugar
1/2 t. vanilla
milk (enough to make desired consistency)
  • Divide dough into 2 pieces. Roll out half and place in a jelly roll pan. (This can also be made in a lasagna pan, to make it a little thicker)
  • Combine filling ingredients (except butter) and lay over crust. Dot with butter.
  • Roll out remaining half of dough and place on top of apples. Seal edges and make slices in top crust.
  • Bake at 375 degrees for 45-60 minutes.
  • Drizzle with glaze while slightly warm.
