This is another recipe from my Grandma. These are such great cookies! I've never had anything like it anywhere else. My Mom said that when she was making these with Grandma growing up they would either brush them with water and sprinkle with sugar or frost with a simple powdered sugar frosting. -Sarah
4 1/2 cup sifted flour
1 1/2 t. salt
1 T. baking soda
4 cups old fashioned oats
1 1/4 cup sugar
1 cup melted shortening
1 t. ginger
1 c. molasses
2 eggs, beaten
1/4 cup hot water
1 1/2 cup raisins
1 cup ground walnuts
4 1/2 cup sifted flour
1 1/2 t. salt
1 T. baking soda
4 cups old fashioned oats
1 1/4 cup sugar
1 cup melted shortening
1 t. ginger
1 c. molasses
2 eggs, beaten
1/4 cup hot water
1 1/2 cup raisins
1 cup ground walnuts
- Sift 4 cups flour and dry ingredients.
- In a large mixing bowl mix oats, sugar, and ginger.
- Stir in melted shortening, molasses, eggs and water. Add sifted dry ingredients.
- Stir in raisins and nuts.
- Work dough until well mixed.
- Roll out and cut with 3 1/2" round cutter.
- Bake on lightly greased cookie sheets.
- Bake at 375 degrees 8-10 minutes.
