Soft Molasses Cookies

These are so yummy, and make the house smell so great on a cold winter day. Of course it's my Mom's recipe, maybe I should just write when a recipe isn't my Mom's. -Sarah

1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup shortening
1 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup molasses
2 eggs
4 cups flour
1/2 t. salt
2 1/4 t. baking soda
1 t. ginger
1/2 t. cloves
1 1/2 t. cinnamon
  • Cream butter, shortening, and sugar. Add eggs and molasses.
  • Stir together dry ingredients. Gradually add to creamed mixture.
  • Roll into balls and coat with sugar.
  • Bake at 350 degrees 8-11 minutes, depending on the size of balls.
  • You want them to be cracked on top, but barely cooked through the middle.

*Variation-stir in 1, 11 oz. bag of butterscotch chips to dough before rolling in sugar.
