If you like molasses, you will love this cake! We loved it. I served it with whipped cream on top, but you can also serve with ice cream...or by itself! -Kristin
2 1/2 c. flour
1 1/2 t. baking soda
1 1/2 t. ginger
1 t. cinnamon
1/2 t. salt
1/2 t. allspice
1/4 t. nutmeg
1/2 c. butter, softened
1/2 c. sugar
1 egg
1 c. molasses
1 c. water
3/4 c. packed brown sugar
1/3 c. butter, melted
1 1/2 c. hot water
2 1/2 c. flour

3/4 c. packed brown sugar
1/3 c. butter, melted
1 1/2 c. hot water
- Heat oven to 350.
- In medium mixer bowl combine flour, soda, ginger, cinnamon, salt, allspice and nutmeg; set aside.
- In a large mixer bowl beat, for 1-2 minutes, 1/2 c. softened butter and sugar.
- Add the egg and molasses, continue beating until well mixed.
- Reduce speed to low and alternate adding flour and water until well blended.
- Pour batter into 9x13 pan.
- Sprinkle batter with the brown sugar.
- In bowl, mix together melted butter and the hot water.
- Pour water mixture over batter.
- Bake 30-40 minutes or until gingerbread is cracked on top and tooth pick inserted in center comes out clean.
