This is my Grandma's German apple cake. We just love this...such great memories of having this with her. The carmel sauce is fantastic served over this. -Kristin
3 c. flour
1/2 t. salt
1 c. oil
1/3 c. orange juice
2 1/3 c. sugar
4 eggs
2 t. vanilla
1 1 /2 t. baking soda
1 1/2 t. baking powder
5 apples, sliced thinly
5 T. sugar
2 t. cinnamon
1 c. brown sugar
1/3 c. evaporated milk
1/2 c. butter
1 T. vanilla

5 apples, sliced thinly

- Mix together the flour, salt, oil, orange juice, sugar, eggs and vanilla and beat on low speed for 1 minute. Then increase to medium speed and beat 3 minutes more.
- Then add baking soda and baking powder and mix 1 minute more; set aside.
- Combine in separate bowl the apples, sugar and cinnamon.
- Grease bundt pan and fill with alternating layers of batter and apples. A total of 3 layers batter and 2 layers of apples. Beginning and ending with batter.
- Bake 350 for 1 1/2 hours.
- When cooled sift some powdered sugar over top if desired.
- Mix the remaining ingredients in a sauce pan and cook till smooth. Do not boil.
- Serve caramel sauce over.
