Cut Out Cookies

These are the best cut out cookies ever! I never make a single batch, they are gone too quickly! -Sarah

3 cups flour
2 t. baking powder
1/2 t. salt
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup shortening
1 1/4 cup sugar
1 t. vanilla
1 egg
1 T. milk

  • Mix dry ingredients. Pack flour into cups, the dough should be very stiff, or the cookies will be puffy.
  • Cream shortening, butter, and sugar. Add vanilla, egg and milk. Beat and add dry ingredients.
  • Chill dough 1 hour. (dough will be very stiff, almost crumbly, pack it all into a bowl)
  • Roll out cookie dough and cut with cutters. Roll the dough thick if you want them like the bakery, roll it thinner if you want them crispy.
  • Bake at 375 degrees for 8-10 minutes. Don't let cookies brown!
  • Frost with decorator icing (posted under cakes category on blog).
